Free-play and A Host of Engaging Activities
Free-play and A Host of Engaging Activities
Creating a mix of free play and structured time helps children build a wealth of skills to feel more balanced in their everyday lives.
Structured activities are useful in the development of gross motor skills, social emotional well-being, and peer play skills; however, unstructured, time when the play is freely chosen and directed by the child, is just as important for growth and development.
So we allow children the freedom to choose. To dip in and out at will empowering them in their choices. They invent games, pretend play, or do whatever their imaginations can conjour.
Free-play is always available and encouraged.
Art & Mess
Art & Mess
Don’t worry about the cleaning up. We have the space, brooms and mops to let the kids go wild in a sensory experience of lovely, squelchy, slippery, sometimes sparkly mess!
Paint, modelling clay, cutting and sticking - we’ll find the inner artist in your little one while helping them learn colours and express themselves through art.
Plants & Food
A weekly gardening activity for the summer months. Kids will get compost under their nails and nurture their seedlings to full sized plants. They’ll explore the benefits of worms, the necessity for sun and water and the joy of harvesting their own produce.
Measuring, mixing, chopping and churning. Each week we’ll taste new flavours, and test new textures. If you’re lucky there may even be enough left over to take home to share too.
Forest School
Each week we take the children to a specially constructed outdoor space to explore nature. They have opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment with trees.
Music & Movement
Sometimes live instruments and other times from a boombox, children are offered the opportunity to play instruments, sing and dance to classical, pop and everything in between! Little ones are free to actively join in or passively listen and dip in and out as they choose. It can be calming or exciting but there's something for everyone from nursery rhymes to Mozart but always ending in bubbles!
Children of all ages can benefit from mindfulness, the simple practice of bringing a gentle, accepting attitude to the present moment. It can help parents and caregivers, too, by promoting happiness and relieving stress. This activity helps develop compassion, focus, curiosity and empathy.
A little Latin rhythm gets everyone moving! A weekly activity involving a high energy mix of hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo to get those little hearts racing.
Science & Technology
Discover the wonders of science with bubbles, magnets, pendulum motion and more! Science is what the world is made of and how it works and we’ll encourage your child to ask “why?”!
From digital cameras to touch screen computers, kids learn 'cause and effect' which is the basis of how technology works. Information Communications Technology (ICT) for babies can be as simple as battery operated toys with parts to press or lift. For the older children simple computer games and using remote controls develops their understanding.
We're keen for children to learn about the environment and how to care for it and teach them about reducing waste, recycling and innovative re-uses.
